The US Federal Aviation Administration has officially given exemption to GE Aviation to sell T700 military-designation turboshaft engines commercially. After the offer of exemption, within just a matter of weeks, Firehawk Helicopters sent two UH-60A helicopters, which were powered by the new T700-701D engines to aid in firefighting efforts in Idaho and Oregon. In addition to this, it has also allowed the possibility for GE to sell these parts to the US Army.

Over the decades, the T700 collection has made some significant advancements when it comes to power, resilience and reliability. There are a huge number of technological advances that have been incorporated into the new design. Current modes generally retain all the favorable and proven aspects of the earlier designs, while simultaneously delivering improved performance.

The T700 is regarded as an extremely resilient and reliable design. It can endure some of the harshest weather and temperature conditions, such as those during combat in Afghanistan and Iraq. This design was created in response to a number of shortcomings of the 1960s helicopter engines encountered during combat in Southeast Asia. The T700 engine design serves all five branches of the military.

The collaboration between Firehawk and GE is expected to deliver major advancements when it comes to operation of aircrafts. Firehawk Helicopters is the pioneer in utilizing the Sikorsky S-70 (UH-60) Black Hawk, and GE is a leading provider of commercial and military jet engines.

Firehawk Helicopters are regarding this as the single-most cost-effective upgrade they have been able to make to their fleet of Black Hawks. “The advanced controls of the -701D also provide near instantaneous response to power demands and precision rotor speed control. We have also noticed they are more efficient when it comes to specific fuel consumption,” states Bart Brainerd, the President of Firehawk Helicopters. The new addition is highly promising to the organization.
